Description

The rapid expansion of contagion by SARS-CoV-2 has proven that it is important to have reliable and specific diagnostic tests that can identify patients who are infected with the virus, as well as those who have built up protection against it. The immune response to the virus can be determined by looking at the IgM and IgG antibodies.

At Eurofins Megalab we offer a SEROLOGY test to detect IgG and IgM ANTIBODIES for COVID-19. The result will tell us if you have already had the virus or not, or whether it is active right now.

All you need to do is come to our blood-drawing centres with the receipt that is sent to you with your purchase. There is NO need for appointment at our Madrid capital centres. Your results will be ready in 24/48 hours.

*Only online price.

Why perform a serology test for COVID-19?

This test will tell us whether the patient has had the virus or not, or whether it is currently active, provided that it is after the window period.

How long after infection do the antibodies show up?

IgM antibodies are generated after the infection (according to recent studies, they show up approximately between the 5th and 7th day after infection, although the tests detect them better after 8-14 days).

The IgG antibodies show up later, between days 15-21 after infection.

Serology test results

The patient’s serology profile will tell us whether the patient has had the virus or not, or whether it is currently active, provided that it is after the window period.

  • If IgM and IgG are negative: A negative result for this test is not 100% reliable, as a person may be infected with the virus but still not have their immune response activated, as they are within the window period. Therefore, we recommend complementing negative cases with a PCR when the patient shows symptoms or has an associated risk factor.
  • IfIgM is negative and IgG positive: The patient has already had the virus.
  • IfIgM and IgG are positive: Active infection stage.
  • IfIgM is positive and IgG negative: This is an early stage of infection and it is recommended to perform a PCR to confirm the infection.
